GenWed.com is a free genealogical research database for marriage records and a directory to other marriage records online for the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Most are free but those that are not are in clearly marked professional or subscription searches and databases not housed on GenWed. We offer these as a service to you and are not responsible for errors or customer service on any websites other than GenWed.

Most of the more than 25,000+ marriage records in our database were submitted by visitors like you who added records found during a search for family history. We accept county marriage book indexes, bible transcriptions or scanned newspaper clippings of wedding, anniversary, and marriage announcements. Also accepted are transcribed marriage indexes, banns, bonds, license applications, pictures of certificates, etc.

We don't have every marriage record online. We will be putting more free databases online on the state pages as they are done, but this takes a massive amount of time and perseverance.

There are no same sex marriages in the older records of the free database. As these marriages become legal in different states, and those records are contributed, they will be added to the database in exactly the same way as all other records.
