Why Do You Need Wyoming Marriage Records Getting married is a wonderful thing. It's a joy, and a wedding allows you to share your relationship with others. While the marriage itself is wonderful, the planning can be a complete nuisance. Most brides find they have to spend hours upon hours planning;, they find themselves tired at the end of each day and simply waiting for the wedding to be done and over with. There are many things that you have to do to plan a wedding, whether it's a small wedding or a large one. While some things are just little details, others are extremely important - like the marriage license. It's nice if you have beautiful flowers at your wedding. It's nice if you have delicious drinks and yummy edibles at your reception. But if you don't have those things, the wedding could still go on. If, however, you don't have your marriage license, the wedding cannot take place - at least not legally - because you have to have a marriage license in order to get married in accordance with the law. Why? Why do you need to have a marriage license? This debate goes back to the 1200's. Before that time, it was not necessary to have any sort of documentation to get married. Many people thought the system was fine; some simply said they were married without actually becoming legally bound to one another. More than one sailor had a wife in each port at that time, and that was not something that the government, or the church, was ready to allow to continue. So they created banns, which is the process by which the intention of the couple to be wed was read aloud to the local congregation for several weeks that gave others a chance to say whether or not the couple should wed. In the 1400's, legal licenses were instituted. Licenses were given only to those couples who could prove that they were not currently married, and many times they would accompany arranged marriages as well. Having a marriage license is what you currently have to do if you want to get married. Without one, no marriage is considered to be legal. Acquiring a marriage license is actually a good thing, from a historical standpoint. The license to be married becomes a marriage record, and marriage records allow you to trace your family's past. With Wyoming marriage records, for instance, you can learn about any relatives who were married in this beautiful state. If you have family there, you can learn about who was married to whom and who their family is. You can learn about the exact date they got married, as well as by whom, and all sorts of interesting information. Being able to access things like Wyoming marriage records is exactly what anyone who is trying to fill their family tree needs to have access to.
